Making strides

For the last 6 months I've been sleeping propped up, like a geisha. Supposedly, those ladies would sleep sitting up to protect their glorious hairstyles but for me it was because of my back. I'd quest unsuccesfully for a comfortable position and then settle on something for awhile.

Last night I slept on one pillow! It was very pleasant and it didn't hurt at all. I think that Patrick the Trainer has been doing some great work as has Patrick, the Shaman, who sends me healing reiki. Last night while I unknowingly received reiki from Him, his wife and my aunt in tandem, I sobbed without reason but it then felt good afterward.

Do most people struggle with sleep at one point in their life? Why do people often sleep worse as they age? Life is strange and now I have to finish my Life cereal because I'm anemic and it's fortified with Iron!

Cail

p.s. Kill figured out that the tannins in tea compete for iron so don't drink green or black tea with all of your food. That was my problem because I just love tea too much :).

Sleep "disorders" do become more common with age. However, there is a small percentage of the population who are born with a medical issue such as narcolepsy, an imbalance in the levels of melatonin or psychiatric conditions such as depression or schizoprhenia all of which affect sleep.
Lots of study has gone into understanding illnesses (like cancer), how our respiratory/reproductive/digestive systems work but the process of sleep and how it affects our physical and mental health are still largely a mystery.
As you imply in your blog, a good nights sleep is the best kind of medicine and is a true blessing. I would even say it was "delicious".
Check out some of the more recent articles on the web about "sleep hygiene". And while you're surfing (a la blog post of November 13th: tee hee) check out Hypnos and Somnus.
